Curriculum Nights

Over the past two nights, we have been at Metea and Still for their curriculum nights.  It’s always fun to meet the kids teachers and to see what they’ll be doing this year.  It also never ceases to amaze me at how good the school district is that we are in.  We are so glad that our kids have the opportunity to have such a high quality education!  We pay through the nose in property taxes, but that’s worth it to us (at least we keep telling ourselves)!  🙂

Best of luck this year kids!  Work hard and you’ll do GREAT!

Labor Day Parade

Today Brittany performed in the Labor day parade with the Metea Valley Marching Mustangs!  She had a fun time and the band looked so great and professional.  They sounded great too!

Everyone was trying to be so serious so we decided to try and make Brittany smile or laugh.  She tried SO hard not to, but we succeeded as you can see above.  🙂  Great job Brittany!  We’re very proud of you!  Happy Labor Day everyone!

Sarah’s First Cougar Football Game

Today was a super exciting day for Sarah!  It was VERY long and tiring, but today she got to play in her first halftime show as a Cougar Marching Band member in the stadium in front of a  huge crowd!  🙂  She was so excited and she said she had a BLAST!  She loves being in the marching band and can’t wait for the rest of the season.  The following was clipped out of the paper by Grandma and Grandpa Halliday…

She’s in that picture of the band somewhere.  🙂  She said the energy (as we already knew) was really high and it was so fun!  And…  the Cougars won the game which just added to the excitement!  🙂  Great job Sarah!  Have a wonderful rest of the season!

Marching Band First Home Game Performance!

Today the Metea Marching Mustangs had their first home game performance!  They did really well for their first full show presentation to a live audience!  Brittany was really excited and couldn’t wait to get together with all her band friends!

This year, Brittany is in the color guard again and gets to carry the American flag during the pre-game show.  During the halftime show, she is on marimba the whole time.

I am excited to be a “pit dad” again and help out assembling and taking down the front ensemble at halftime.  It’s great to be down on the field with the kids.  Brittany treated me really nice today!  🙂

Go Britt!

School Starts!

Angela came home from BYU just in time because school started today!  We didn’t get a picture of Brittany because we had to leave early, but we did get pictures of Kirstyn and Zach before they left for the day…

They were so excited to go today to see friends they haven’t seen for awhile, get to know their new teachers, and start learning!  Kirstyn is especially excited because she is now the big girl on campus in 8th grade and everyone will look up to them.  🙂

Angela Back Home!!!

Angela came back home today from Provo, and I didn’t have to pick her up from Milwaukee!!!  Yea!  It was hard for her to leave Sarah and come back home, knowing that we wouldn’t see her again until Christmas break.  I think it will be hard when we just don’t see her around the dinner table every night.  🙁  She’s where she needs to be, however, and we’re very proud of how hard she’s working.

We’re also glad to have Angela back with us, however!  We had a lot of fun and played a lot while she was gone, but there’s nothing like having my wonderful wife at home to hug!  🙂

Brittany Driver’s License

Today was a GREAT day!!!!  A VERY nervous Brittany went over to the DMV to take her driving test to get her license…  😐  She had nothing to worry about because she passed with flying colors!!!

She’s working hard on thatI guess we don’t have to worry too much now about watching over our shoulders and staying off the sidewalks!  🙂  I treated her to a McDonald’s breakfast (I know, yuck, but it was very close and fast, and that’s what she wanted)!  🙂  Great work Brittany!!!  I still have to take her to Seminary every day and she needs to get a ride to school because she’s not quite done with her Personal Progress for Young Women and she has to complete that before her driver’s license will be “official.”  She’s working on it hard and should be done within the next couple of weeks!

In other great news, Sarah found out that through her re-audition process, she was the ONLY freshman to make first piccolo in the marching band!!!  What an outstanding accomplishment!  She is on cloud nine, but will have to work harder as the pieces for first piccolo are a little more involved and difficult!  Yeah Sarah!

We are so proud of our kids and everything that they do!  🙂  Can’t tell, can you?  🙂

Band Camp Starts and Funeral

Today Sarah got up early and reported to the first day of BYU Marching Band Camp!  She was a bit nervous, but all those feelings went away as they got to know each other and started working on fundamentals and drills.  She says that she has a wonderful section that she can’t wait to get to know better!

While Sarah was working hard out in the hot sun, Angela drove up to Bountiful to attend the funeral of her Great Aunt Grace.  She was the sweetest lady and always had a smile on her face.  Her passing was very timely for Angela to be able to attend and she got to see some family members that she hadn’t seen in awhile.

When Angela and Sarah called home tonight, they were very tired but happy!  Sarah’s first day went great and she can’t wait until tomorrow!  They have some “re-auditions” to “place” them, and Sarah is nervous!  🙂  You’ll do GREAT little lady!  🙂

First Day in Provo and Band Fireside

Today was Sarah’s first full day in Provo!   Since things really haven’t started up yet and her ward did not meet, Angela picked up Sarah and they went to church with  Greg and Lisa.  It turns out that there is a rule that Angela can’t stay in Sarah’s room, even though she is her mom, so Angela is staying with Greg and Lisa while she’s out there.  That was a real let-down for Angela and she was bummin’ about it.

Anyway, after church, they enjoyed the afternoon, and then Sarah went to a Sunday night marching band fireside to kick off the season.  Marching band camp starts tomorrow and she can’t wait to get going and meet new people, learn new things, and have a blast!  She can’t wait for that feeling to perform in front of 65,000 fans!  🙂

Wedding and Reunion

Today was very quiet on the Illinois front, but VERY busy on the Utah front!  My cousin Carli got married today, and so Angela and Sarah went to support the family.  While they were at the temple, they ran into Mark’s favorite old mission companion, Elder Hales!  What a small world!

It was great for them to see family and friends.  In addition, Mom and Dad Hobbs came down and so they went and hung out with them for awhile too, which was enjoyable for both.

After having fun with everyone, they went down to BYU and got Sarah checked into her apartment.  She sure has a lot of stuff that I’m not sure where she’s going to store it all after this year.  🙂  Angela then took Sarah out shopping to get even more stuff so Sarah would be all ready to go!  Sounds like they had a blast!  Sarah can’t be more excited both for school and marching band!  Go Cougars!

Sarah Leaves for School and Band Parent Preview

Today, we got up early, and I drove Sarah and Angela to Milwaukee to fly out to Provo for school.  🙁  It doesn’t really hit you until it’s staring you in the face!  Getting Sarah out with all the luggage they took (in addition to all the stuff we drove out earlier) was a miracle in itself!  I think that both Angela and Sarah were maxed out on the weight of luggage they could take.  Angela cut way back on what she took with he to fit all of Sarah’s stuff!  🙂  We had to re-pack a bunch of stuff and keep re-weighing the luggage to make sure we weren’t over.  🙂  It’s hard to believe that we are down one and have two more knocking at the door.  😐

This afternoon the Marching Band had their parent preview and it was great to see how much they have done so far!  I will be helping out with the Pit again this year and am looking forward to it.  This year the show is “The Music of Styx” and will be really cool!

The band did a great job and are really excited about the music this year!  We felt bad that Angela had to miss it!  Brittany did a great job, although she didn’t think so.  🙂

Great job Brittany and we’ll miss you Sarah!
