4th Grade Musical

Tonight, Zach had his 4th Grade Musical Performance!  It was all about Colorado and its history.  He had a little solo “rap” part and it was cute!

Zach wore his Cub Scout shirt as did some of the other kids to show their spirit.  All the kids did a great job and seemed to really enjoy the program as did all of us as parents.  🙂

We have been really impressed with Aspen View and are VERY glad that we decided to have the boys go there!

Great job Zach!

Sweetheart Ball

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Tonight we went up to the Timberline LDS building for the annual Castle Rock Stake Sweetheart Ball with Bonnie and Terry Liddell.  We had a great time and ate some yummy food.  There wasn’t much dancing, however.  Most of the time, everyone there sat and talked.  We left a little early to get home to the kids but had a great time.  🙂

Health Fair and Ward FHE Activity

Today we went to a huge health and wellness fair at the Douglas County Fairgrounds here in Castle Rock.  Brittany worked there with her job and so we went to see her.  The kids got a lot of vendor stuff.  The boys also had a chance to climb a rock wall.  They had a blast!

Tonight we had a ward Family Home Evening activity and our family taught a session on how to do FHE with teens in the house.  It was very well attended and we had a great time doing it.  🙂

Happy Birthday Kirk!

Today was my big 45th birthday!  Yikes!  I feel young and old at the same time.  Tonight we had a celebration with the Pocock family at our house!  What’s really crazy is that Camille Pocock and I share the same birthday, Angela and Patrick share the same birthday, and Ben and Jake were born one day apart and were in the hospital together.     🙂  We also invited the Liddell family to come and share in the festivities with us.

There were so many candles on the cake for both of us that we thought it would be a fire hazard and also set off the smoke alarms in the house!  🙂

We had a great time eating cake and ice cream and hanging out together telling stories of the old Naperville 2nd Ward, what’s going on now there, and anything else we could think of.

I had a GREAT birthday.  They could slow down a little bit in between, but I can’t do anything about that.  🙂

BYU EFY and Hospital for Ben!

Today Kirstyn got signed-up to go to EFY at BYU Provo!  Turns out they are not doing the stay-at-home EFY like they did last year and in years past due to lack of participation, so we had to find another place.  She is SO excited to go (first week of June) and will be going with Ashley Smith from our old ward in Naperville!  You’ll have a BLAST Kirstyn!  🙂

On Sunday, Ben got a crayon (twist type) stuck in his ear and he wouldn’t let us get it out.  He wouldn’t even let the doctor touch his ear, so today we had to take him to the hospital to be totally put out so they could take 30 seconds and pull it out.  Crazy.  They took a pic of him in the hospital before his “surgery”…

Everything went well with him and he was in and out in about 5 minutes.  Ben will hopefully learn from this that he shouldn’t stick stuff in his ears!  🙂

Super Bowl Sunday

After church today, we went over to the Pocock’s and had dinner and a Super Bowl Party while watching the big game.  We had a GREAT time, despite the horrible score (Broncos got creamed)!  Kirk won the contest for most answers right about the game and got a big ball of chocolate treats!  🙂  It was fun to just hang out with friends, get to know some new people, and eat a lot of food!  🙂

Crazy Saturday

Today was one busy day!  This morning, we had a Primary Ice Cream Social at the church for all the kids who had worked really hard on memorizing their Articles of Faith.  Ben and Zach got to go and they got all sugared-up for the rest of the day.  Right after that, I took them to seeThe Nut Job movie and they really liked it.  It was a fun movie and I liked it better than I thought I would.  It was nice to get out with the boys and have a fun time at the movies.  After that, the boys took advantage of the newly fallen snow overnight and went sledding.  Ben played in the snow since he’s not allowed yet to sled due to his concussion, but he still had fun anyway.  After sledding, they came back and played in the snow in the back yard.

Tonight, the girls went to go see Peter Pan (play) in Parker for Kirstyn’s birthday.  They had a great time and really enjoyed themselves.  I had a great time at home with the boys too.  We had a movie night with some snacks and they had a blast.  🙂

Date Night at the Movies

Tonight, Angela and I had a date night at the movies.  We went and saw the Saratov Approach which was having a special showing.  It’s about 2 missionaries that get kidnapped in Russia and the experience they had.

Many stake members were there.  It was almost like a fireside!  🙂  The only drawback of going tonight was that tomorrow, one of the missionaries will actually be at the theater to give a little talk, preface the movie, and then answer questions afterward.  That would have been really cool.  🙂

It was a really well made movie and was very touching.  I can’t imagine how it must have been going through that.  As it turns out, one of the members of our ward had that happen to him.  He wasn’t kidnapped and held for ransom, but he was kidnapped, drugged, and then released.  It was a crazy experience for him too.

Happy Birthday Kirstyn!

Happy birthday Kirstyn!  It’s hard to believe your big 15!  One more year to driving!  😐  We celebrated opening presents in the morning and then this afternoon quickly with the dinner of her choice.

The girls and Angela then had to run to the church to New Beginnings.  I stayed with the boys.

Hope your birthday was an awesome one!

Pinewood Derby and Dinner with Friends

Today was a busy but FUN one!  Zach had the Pinewood Derby first thing this morning and he was so excited!  We worked hard on his car and were hoping that it was faster than last year.  🙂  I really don’t like the Pinewood Derby because someone always goes away crying, etc.  This year was quite different and I was very impressed!  The cool thing was that Zach got 3rd place overall!  🙂  He was beaming but did not brag and congratulated all the other kids even those who didn’t place.  What a great sport he was.

After the Pinewood Derby, we ran over to Zach’s basketball game.  He won again!  Their team is still undefeated!

Tonight we went over and had dinner with the Pocock family!  It was a ton of fun and it’s so cool that they’re out here now.  We’re working to build up the Naperville presence here in the area!  🙂

Versailles Performance at the Broadmoor!

This afternoon Brittany and the Versailles Choir performed at the Broadmoor Hotel and Resort in Colorado Springs as part of the Colorado Music Educator’s Association (CMEA) conference.  Only a small number of elite choirs are selected to perform for the state music educators and it is quite the honor.

They sang their 4 songs and sounded AWESOME!  We’re really proud of you Brittany!  This is a great experience for you!

Versailles Concert

Tonight, Versailles, the women’s choir that Brittany sings with at school had a practice concert at the 1st United Methodist Church in Castle Rock.  They were practicing for the CMEA (Colorado Music Educator’s Association) conference event they were accepted to sing at.  It is quite the honor!  They did a great job singing.

We’re excited to go see them perform on Thursday the 23rd at the Broadmoor Hotel/Resort in Colorado Springs.  🙂  Way to go Brittany!
