Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone!  The kids had a great time going out trick-or-treating and after 2 1/2 hours, they were exhausted but had a TON of candy!

Kirstyn went out a little later as well and had fun too!  We now have a whole bunch of candy (and a whole bunch of freezer bags of chocolate) that we can snack on for some time to come… that is as long as we can keep it rationed to the kids.  Otherwise, it will be gone in a week.  🙂

Basketball Starts for Kirstyn

Today Kirstyn started basketball on a Wheatland team with her good friend Ashley.  She is the only one on the team that is not from the school Ashley goes to, so she doesn’t know anyone, but that will soon change.  They look really good and should have a GREAT season!

Thai Dinner Party and Baptism

Tonight we had a Thai party at the clubhouse of some good friends of ours.  She is part Thai and her dad was in town and loves to cook so they took advantage of this!  Brittany went over early (in her catering interests) and helped prepare the food.  She is now an expert in spring rolls!  She got high complements from the chef!  We also watched the Notre Dame football game as he is a ND master’s graduate and big-time fan.

Also today, Sarah’s roommate Ilyssa got baptized!  What a wonderful experience this has been for Sarah in helping to teach the gospel.  She got to sing a special musical number at the baptism which was also a highlight for her.  What a great thing the gospel is to the happiness of those it comes in contact with (members and non-members alike)!

Mormon’s Next Door @ C.O.D.

Today, we had a wonderful experience at the College of DuPage (COD).  Angela in her role with Public Affairs went and gave a wonderful “Mormon’s Next Door” presentation to a comparative religion class that one of the young men in our ward is in.  He helped set it up and the teacher was pretty excited.  I went along as the “tech” guy and got everything set up.  Bishop Brown also came, along with the stake’s Public Affairs Director that Angela works with.  She did an OUTSTANDING job and handled herself VERY well.

At first there were not too many questions, but then the flood gates opened and the kids started asking all kinds of questions.  We were surprised that there were not too many controversial questions asked.  The kids were more interested about missionary service, humanitarian service, and things like that.  I guess that goes to show the maturity of those kids who are taking the class because they WANT to.  We were supposed to take up about 3/4 of the class time, but ended up going all the way to the end and then we stayed after for about 30 minutes still answering questions.

Great job Angela, Bishop, and all involved!

3rd Grade Musical @ Gombert

Tonight, Zach had his 3rd Grade Musical at Gombert.  He did a GREAT job and said his part wonderfully!  Unfortunately, we didn’t get any good pictures (or can’t find them).  We always enjoy going to these events.  You just never know what you’re going to get and see.  It’s funny to watch how the kids perform!  🙂  The fun thing is that most just don’t care who’s watching them.  They just kind-of do what they want to do.  : -)

Basketball Starts for Zach & Trunk or Treat

Tonight Zach started basketball and had his first practice with the park district team he’s playing on.  It’s a little more relaxed than the Wheatland team he plays for.  There are some kids who have never played before and he feels right at home.  🙂  We also had our trunk or treat activity tonight at the church.  Everybody got dressed up and we all had a fun time!

Zach was late getting there because of basketball practice, but he didn’t miss anything other than the dinner (he was there for the fun and candy anyway)!  🙂

Brittany Orchestra Concert

Tonight Brittany had an orchestra concert at Metea.  They always sound SO good when they play.  She had been practicing for the difficult song they were playing and felt ready.

The high school orchestra also played a couple of numbers with the middle school orchestras and that was fun to watch as well.  It’s good for the younger kids to see what they can become when the get into high school!  🙂

Great job Brittany!  You rock!  🙂

Ben Field Trip!

Today Ben went on a field trip to a pumpkin patch with his pre-school class.  He had a great time and loved all the activities!  His helpers took a bunch of pictures and sent them to us…

Ben also got to pet a bunch of barnyard animals, play on other slides, and have a great time.  Thanks to the student teachers who helped him have such a wonderful day!!!  🙂

Zach’s First Student Council Meeting

Zach had his first Student Council meeting since being elected class representative.  He was so excited to go and really participate in Student Government.  He said he can’t wait to make some changes that will be good for the school.  What the little politician!  🙂  Have fun and make a difference Zach!

Standards Night

Tonight we had Standards Night at the church.  Hopefully the kids enjoyed it.  It never ceases to amaze me the difference in the written questions or responses we get from the kids prior to the event.  This year, we asked all the kids to make a list of the top 10 things they are looking for in a spouse.  As usual (with the exception of the 2 or 3 more mature young men), most of the answers were totally surface things like hot, rich, and they even went to great lengths to write down things like “wont’ touch my stuff” and “imported from Russia.”  😐  The YW on the other hand (as usual) took it more seriously and gave some great things.  When we discussed this together, I think it made the Young Men a little uncomfortable (no names were mentioned) when we read what they had written vs. what the young women had written.  🙂

Flu Shots

Today was flu shot day!  🙁  We all piled into the van like a herd of buffalo and drove over to the doctor’s office. I’m sure they thought it was humorous when we all came walking in and Ben had that scared to death look on his face.  Both he and Zach didn’t want to have anything to do with it (especially Zach).  Zach kept putting it off and so Ben went before him. He saw that it didn’t hurt too bad and Ben told him it was fine so he went and was relieved at how easy it was.  🙂
