Zach’s First Student Council Meeting

Zach had his first Student Council meeting since being elected class representative.  He was so excited to go and really participate in Student Government.  He said he can’t wait to make some changes that will be good for the school.  What the little politician!  🙂  Have fun and make a difference Zach!

Standards Night

Tonight we had Standards Night at the church.  Hopefully the kids enjoyed it.  It never ceases to amaze me the difference in the written questions or responses we get from the kids prior to the event.  This year, we asked all the kids to make a list of the top 10 things they are looking for in a spouse.  As usual (with the exception of the 2 or 3 more mature young men), most of the answers were totally surface things like hot, rich, and they even went to great lengths to write down things like “wont’ touch my stuff” and “imported from Russia.”  😐  The YW on the other hand (as usual) took it more seriously and gave some great things.  When we discussed this together, I think it made the Young Men a little uncomfortable (no names were mentioned) when we read what they had written vs. what the young women had written.  🙂

Flu Shots

Today was flu shot day!  🙁  We all piled into the van like a herd of buffalo and drove over to the doctor’s office. I’m sure they thought it was humorous when we all came walking in and Ben had that scared to death look on his face.  Both he and Zach didn’t want to have anything to do with it (especially Zach).  Zach kept putting it off and so Ben went before him. He saw that it didn’t hurt too bad and Ben told him it was fine so he went and was relieved at how easy it was.  🙂

Zach Gets Bobcat!

Tonight at Cub Scout Pack Meeting, Zach received his Bobcat rank!  For the first time ever,  Angela and I got to go up and have Zach pin on mom’s first scouting pin!!!!  Yea!!!

Great work Zach!  He is really excited about Cub Scouts and can’t wait to do more and get his Wolf rank advancement.  It’s really fun to do the activities with him, and even though some are ridiculously easy (from an adult perspective now), he tackles each one with vigor and excitement!  🙂

Marching Band Banquet

Tonight we had the Metea Valley Marching Mustangs marching band banquet.  The kids had a great time, and as usual, had a great time laughing about all the inside joke stuff while all the parents sat there wondering what all the humor was about.  🙂  Angela and I helped out with setting up and serving the food.

General Conference – Exciting News!

This weekend was a VERY busy and VERY exciting!  A friend of ours went to the BYU vs. Utah State Game and saw Sarah.  He sent us a picture of her and Kristen Blackham together…

He said they looked like they were having a TON of fun and really enjoying themselves!

General Conference was this weekend as well and we had some BIG news!  The mission age for men was dropped to 18 and mission age for women was dropped to 19!  As soon as the session was over, we got a VERY excited call from Sarah saying that she’s going on a mission as soon as she can!  WOW!  That just surprised and floored us!  We are so excited for her!  She wants to go in January but we told her we would talk to her about it a little bit and she should pray about it before jumping to a date conclusion.  We feel she should wait until the end of the school year so she has a little more experience under her belt.  We’ll see!

We also had some friends over for breakfast and had a great time getting to know them better.  They are new to our ward.

We also were able to stream the Priesthood Session over the internet to our b uilding this year so none of us had to drive to the Stake Center!  Wahoo!!!  I was one of the folks in charge of that and so I was praying that nothing went wrong with my laptop during the entire time we were broadcasting.  🙂

Wow, what a weekend!

8th Grade Band Night at the Game

Tonight the Metea  Valley Marching Mustangs held their 8th grade band night where all the feeder school 8th graders came and participated with the Marching Band.  They played the national anthem, the school fight song, and other pre-game stuff.  They got to come and meet Marching Band members who they will hopefully be playing with next year.  The cool thing about it is that this year it involved Kirstyn!  🙂  She was so excited and practiced the fight song a bunch so she would do well.

Brittany did an outstanding job for their halftime show as well!  They had their best night yet!  Maybe it was because they wanted to show the 8th graders how it’s done!  🙂

Great job girls!  You both performed wonderfully!  When we told Sarah, she was really jealous that she couldn’t be there.  We assured her it was probably a little more thrilling to play in front of 65,000 people than a couple thousand!  🙂

Go Mustangs!

Tri-M Induction

Tonight, Brittany was inducted into the Tri-M Music Honor Society.  She is very excited and enjoys so much her involvement in music in our school district.  We are so grateful that our district focuses so much on the Arts!  Great job Brittany!

Leaking Foundation

Again!!!  We have another crack in our foundation that is leaking and got the carpet all wet in a different place.  So, we had to pull off the wallboard and get things cleaned up.  🙁  I then went outside and started digging a hole so it could be patched from the outside.  🙁  The funny part is that Ben wanted to help me so he got a little plastic shovel, climbed down into the hole and started throwing out clods of dirt.

Turns out I dug the hole in the wrong place (by another crack) and had to dig a second one on the other side of the air conditioner.  🙁  This really stinks!  We are going to have the guys who did our other crack come and fix it.  They guarantee it for life so we should be good to go soon. to put up new wallboard and replace some of the carpet and baseboards.  Yuck!

Brittany’s First Day of Work!

Brittany got a job working at Anderson’s Bookstore and today was her first day of work!  Right now, she’s working in the warehouse sorting and getting books ready for book fairs at schools all over the area.  She really enjoys it and loves the people she works with, including one of her best friends!  Great job Brittany!  We’re proud of you!  🙂

AMI and Memorial Walk

Today Angela had an American Mother’s meeting at our house and so we all did our best to run errands and keep things quiet while they were in their meeting.  We had about 10 or so people show up from around Illinois.  This evening we had a special event that we went to.  About a year ago, we lost a friend of the family and tonight, we celebrated his life with “Lonny’s Lights at Night” Memorial Walk.  People from all over the neighborhood met together, put on t-shirts we had for the event, brought flashlights, and we walked a route around the neighborhood and the lake path to celebrate Lonny Greenwald’s life.  It was a great thing to support his wife and daughters.
