Back to School Pool Party!

Today Zach went to school and met his new teacher, Mr. Farrell!  He was very excited because he knows Mr. Farrell a little bit from when Kirstyn had him for math.  Zach can’t wait for school to start.  I hope that his teacher feels that way too!  🙂  I’m sure Mr. Farrell got an update from his teacher last year!  😐

Tonight, the girls and I went over to the South Point Swim Club for the end of the summer pool party with the young men and young women in our ward.  We had a GREAT turnout and the food was wonderful.  The kids brought friends and I think that altogether, we had over 5o people there!  Brittany was extra excited about the evening, but I won’t go into it any further!  🙂  You’ll have to ask her yourself!

Friends for Dinner!

Tonight we had the Anderson family over for dinner.  They are good friends of ours and moved awhile back from Naperville to Long Island, NY.  We miss having them here and I think they really miss being here too!  🙂   We had a great dinner of burgers, brats, chicken, and all kinds of stuff.  Then we just hung out in the back yard, enjoying the wonderful weather and getting caught up on what’s going on in each other’s families!

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get a picture of everyone together, so the above pic of Spencer, Seth, and his girlfriend will have to suffice!  🙂

Zoo and First Football Practice

Today, Kirstyn, Zach, and Ben went to Phillips Park (and the Zoo) with Angela.  They had a GREAT time playing in the park, getting wet, and really enjoying themselves.

After getting worn out by all the playing at the zoo, Zach had his first football practice, with me as an assistant coach!  We have a few who played last year on our team, but most are brand new players who are very excited to play football.  The kids have a lot of energy, so that will make up for them being on the small side (again)!  🙂  We have a small (in numbers) tam as well so we hope that some will be added as the pre-season practices go along.  I’m really looking forward to it!

Football takes a lot more discipline than soccer does, so I hope I’ll have the patience that I need!  🙂

Angela B-Day, Leadership, and Wedding!

Today was Angela’s 29th birthday!  🙂  We so many things going on that we really didn’t even have time to celebrate much, of which we feel really bad.  We had a great day, though!

Sarah was gone all day to a Marching Band leadership camp.  They went canoeing down the fox river for a couple of hours and had a blast!  They then had some leadership training, and then ended up at a nearby community pool for a BBQ and some swimming.  She had a great time and was excited that the canoeing was MUCH easier than it was at girl’s camp last year.  They didn’t scrape against the bottom half the time!  🙂

While she was doing that, Angela and I attended a wedding at the temple of a good friend of ours, Subash Krishnamoorthy.  He is originally from India, and his new wife is from Germany!  They are really cute together.

He had some family in from India, but for those that couldn’t make it, a relative had his smartphone and an MP3 player and was Skyping with family in India while playing Indian music in the background.  Amazing what technology has come to, huh?  🙂

Tonight we went to the reception, where they had a great sit-down buffet dinner of a variety of Indian foods.  It tasted GREAT!

We’re exhausted!  🙂

Football Camp Kicks Off the Season!

Today kicked-off the official start of the St. Raphael Football season!  Zach went to the first day of his “hitters” camp for the 1st and 2nd year players.  He is very excited to be playing again this year, and I’m excited to be coaching him this year!  The coach that he will have is an awesome guy, and loves working with kids.  As soon as I found out that he would probably be coaching, I threw my name in the ring as an assistant coach!  We’re going to have a lot of fun this year.

Zach is a little rusty from the “off-season,” but I’m sure he’ll come right back up to speed.  I saw him make some good hits and he wants to tackle this year, so that is a good sign.  🙂

Girls Home from Camp!

Today, the girls came home from camp!  We sure missed them!  They had a really fun time!  Brittany got to go on the 4th year canoe trip, Sarah was a Youth Camp Leader (YCL), and Kirstyn just totally enjoyed her first year and can’t wait to go back.  It seems like everything lately is a “last” for Sarah…  Last EFY, last Youth Conference, last Girls Camp, etc.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Zach, Ben, and I had  a great time too!  Only once did things get out of hand and Ben colored on Brittany and Kirstyn’s door with purple non-washable marker while I was on a conference call!  😐  We played at the park, went out to dinner, had ice cream, had a video and junk food party, and the boys played the Wii a LOT!  🙂  One time playing at the park, I did have to explain what a group of older teens were doing at the park with a bong smoking pot right in front of everyone!  🙁  The boys thought it was a little strange that they would be smoking out of a jar!  Some people’s children are dumber than bricks to do something like that a public park!

Girls Camp Starts, Work from Home

Today, all three of the girls and Angela took off to girl’s camp in Indiana.  Angela is helping out at camp this year because it’s the only year that all three of the girls will be there together.  It’s Sarah’s last year and Kirstyn’s first!  Brittany is a 4th year and is excited to get her yellow feather.

That said, I’m staying at home with the boys!  I’ll be working from home as much as I can and making sure the boys are doing OK.  It will be a very interesting experience because the boys are so active!  🙂

Happy Pioneer Day!

Today to celebrate Pioneer Day, we had some friends over and made tinfoil dinners and cooked them up on the grill.  It was a far cry from the way they did things in 1847!  We sure take for granted many of the modern conveniences we have today, that’s for sure!  The food tasted great and we thought it was a fun idea.

Blueberry Picking

Today, the family (minus Kirk who had to go to work) went blueberry picking!  They had a fun time and ended up picking 30 pounds!  Everyone we told couldn’t believe it!

The funny thing is that the farm said you could eat while picking, so Ben ended up eating probably 2 pounds of  blueberries while he was in the field.  I’m not sure why his skin didn’t turn blue by the time he got home!  🙂

New Toys for Angela!

The new washer and dryer arrived today!  I got them installed when I got home and they look great!  They’re just like new toys!  Angela loves to do laundry now, and so do the kids!  The machines are SO quiet and you can’t even tell they’re running until you hear the little “laundry’s done” musical chimes.  🙂

Ward Temple Night

Tonight we had a Ward Temple Night and what an awesome night it was.  As part of Youth Conference, we came up with names for the girls to do baptisms for in Nauvoo.  We asked the Raketic family if we could do the work for their family, and they said that we could.  Brittany and Sarah did the baptisms, and tonight, Angela and I went to the temple and did the work for Tracy’s Mom and Dad!  It was really a cool experience doing that for someone that you know.  We haven’t had much of a chance to do that because a ton of work in our families on both sides has been done.  We have about 14 more names to do and are excited to do these over the next year!  🙂

New Purchase and Country Hoedown!

Today we went out shopping and found an awesome washer/dryer set for a great deal!  It’s an Electrolux front-load set and we are excited to have them delivered!

On a more fun note, the girls went to a combined Young Women and Young Men activity at the church with the 2 other wards in our building and had a country hoedown tonight.  They had a blast and they looked so cute, dressed up in their western wear!

They had a bunch of cowboy chow, did line dancing, and had all kinds of fun!  YeeeeeHawwww!  🙂
