Kirk’s Birthday

Well, another year has come and gone, and I’m trying to stop counting the birthdays now.  From now on, they will just be anniversaries of my 30th birthday!  🙂  Most of my birthday was spent at church and in meetings, so I didn’t get to spend much time with the family, but we did have a fun dinner and little family party together tonight.

For dinner, Brittany shoveled the snow off the patio, fired up the grill and cooked burgers for me!  That was very sweet, considering it was about 20 degrees outside.  They also bought me a wonderful raspberry cheesecake ice cream cake from Coldstone that was absolutely wonderful!

As part of my birthday present, I got to watch the entire Super Bowl!  🙂  Sarah actually was excited to watch it as well and she stayed with me the entire time!  It was fun!  We especially loved the commercials.  They are always a hoot!  We liked the Doritos and eBay commercials the best!  Unfortunately, the Colts lost to the Saints.  🙁

Budding Scientist in Our Family!

Today Brittany participated in the District Science Fair for our school district!  It was held at Waubonsie High School and there were a hundreds of kids who were there.  Brittany really enjoyed her science project for school, so much that she decided to take it to the Science Fair.  It was titled “Men vs. Women:  Do You Have Your Placard?”  Over the course of about 3 months, she observed people’s parking habits in handicapped spaces.  She noted from all the data she gathered, that women are more likely to abuse handicapped parking spaces (parking without a placard) than men were.  🙂  This was a shock to her as her hypothesis stated that she thought men would be the most dishonest when it came to this.  She drew up all her conclusions and then made a nice presentation board.

She did a GREAT job and we are very proud of her for her work.  She learned a lot about research and analyzing data.  Angela and I went over to the high school toward the end and looked at a bunch of projects.  There were some other really cool ones as well such as how and what types of Wii games affect heart rate the most, the power of a simple hello, and smart behavior.  There was even one that partnered with a college lab and analyzed staph bacteria.  😐  It took us back to the days when we participated in the Science Fair at our schools!  (only without the staph)!  🙂

When the judging was all over, Brittany was awarded a first place finish and received a ribbon and certificate.

She was a little sad that she didn’t get picked to go to the next level, but it was a great experience for her!  Great job Brittany!

Sarah Pep Band and Brittany Concert

Today was a busy day in the world of music in our family.  Sarah played in the pep band for the girls basketball game (Metea vs. Waubonsie).  She had a blast and it was even better that Metea won by 1 point!  🙂  Sorry, don’t have a good picture of her playing!  🙁

While Sarah was playing and Angela was at the high school watching her, I got Brittany to her concert at Still Middle School.  Angela and Sarah arrived just in time to enjoy watching the 8th Grade chorus, band, and orchestra concert as well.  They did a  GREAT job!  Brittany both sang and played her violin.

We love to hear the girls play their music both in and out of the house.  It brings a peaceful feeling to our home when they are all practicing and making beautiful music.  🙂
