First Day of School!
Well, it’s that time again! Today the kids went back to school! It’s amazing how fast the summer went. The kids got out in June and with school starting earlier than normal this year, we lost almost 2 full weeks of summer! Oh well, school will be out before Memorial Day next year which will be something VERY new! No more June school!
Sarah was the first off this morning! She doesn’t start seminary until Monday, so she took the bus today. 6:41am pickup! It was a historic day for her and the rest of the students as this was opening day for Metea Valley High School! They had an assembly with all the kids, had a ribbon-cutting ceremonly, and Sarah got to play the fight song with the marching band to celebrate the occasion. As far as the school day went, she really likes all her teachers so that is a positive thing! 🙂 Not much homework other than coming home and picking out a Spanish name starting with “S” to be called for the rest of the year. She picked out the name “Sata” which means “princess.” She liked that name because her name means princess in Hebrew as well. No break for marching band practice as she had to do that after school until about 5:30 or so.
Brittany was the next off. Her friends stopped by to walk to school together and she had a great day as well. She likes her teachers this year also and is excited for the new year. It’s kind of crazy that she is the “big girl on campus” this year. She will start up cross country in the next couple of days. The highlight of her day was going to her classes for the first time, seeing teachers she hadn’t seen all summer, and seeing some of the kids she hadn’t seen all summer as well! 🙂
Kirstyn was the next off! Angela took her over and dropped her off at the school, where all the teachers were waiting for the kids. She is so excited to have Mrs. Gudgeon this year and as soon as Mrs. Gudgeon saw Kirstyn, she came running over and gave her a great big hug!
She had a great day and is so excited to be the “big girl on campus” this year in 5th grade as well! Mrs. Gudgeon is the first teacher that has had all 3 of our oldest kids so far. That’s a first! It’s crazy to think that we have been around at Gombert elementary ever since the 2nd year it opened, over 12 years ago!
Zach was last off! It’s hard to believe it was his first day of Kindergarten today! Angela and I took him over (I worked from home in the morning so I could be there too) to school to go over school items with his teacher, Ms. Kalvaitis. He was excited to see her, but was acting kind of shy. He was very nervous before going over. We only had to be there for 30 minutes today, but tomorrow, he will get on the bus with Kirstyn and spend the whole day there. I think that will be hard for Angela to see him get on the bus!
It’s amazing at how fast the kids are growing up! We were just talking the other day that in 3 years, we’ll have 1 in college, 1 i n high school, 1 in middle school, 1 in elementary school, and 1 in pre-school! All bases covered! WEIRD! We wish the kids all the best in their school work and Benjamin a very relaxing time at home by himself with Angela! 🙂
