Window Well Scare!

Today we had a BIG scare!  Ben and  Zach were out on the patio shoveling off snow to make a fort, and Ben tripped and fell backward into our window well!  🙁  It was about a 6-7 foot drop.  Fortunately he landed on his backside but he hit his head on either the window or the concrete side of the well when he fell.  He was really dizzy and couldn’t stand up.  We finally got him pulled out of the well and he was complaining about his ear hurting.  We took off his hood and hat and his ear was bleeding pretty bad!  We ran him ASAP to the emergency room in the hospital and after getting him calmed down with some pain medication, they took a scan and found out that he had a slight fracture on his skull right behind his ear, and he also had a concussion.  It could have been MUCH worse, and for that we are thankful!  He was so bundled up, his hat, hood, coat, and snow pants cushioned his fall.

The poor little guys was in a lot of pain but really was a trooper.  The doctors were a little concerned and wanted him to be watched overnight just to make sure everything was OK.  The problem is that at our hospital, they don’t have a pediatric neural unit so they transferred him by ambulance to Children’s Hospital in Aurora.  Ben was SO excited to go on the ambulance!  🙂  Angela rode with him up there.  He didn’t make it very far before he completely fell asleep.  🙂

They are up at the hospital right now and I’ll go get them tomorrow morning.  It sounds like Ben is doing well!

The frustrating thing is that the window well covers were the next major expense we had on the list after the back yard got done.  We hadn’t had time to get the quotes and get them installed.  Guess what each of the 4 kids at home are getting this year for Christmas?  Yep, a window well cover for each!  🙂

We’re praying for your quick recovery Ben!

Baby Blessing and Return Home

Today we got up REALLY early in Salmon and left (5:30am) to drive down to Rexburg for the blessing of Mark and Jocelyn’s baby Paxton.  Leaving that early from Salmon requires everyone to keep on the lookout for deer and elk darting out in the middle of the road.  It is somewhat nerve-racking as in the pitch black, it’s like you are driving in a tunnel and can’t see off to the side very well.  Fortunately for us, we didn’t see any wildlife near the road and got down to Rexburg without incident.

The blessing was very nice. It’s hard to realize that Mark, who was born after Angela and I were married, is now blessing his own little baby boy.  Crazy!

After the blessing we started the long 10 or so hour drive home.  Everything was uneventful until we got down to I-80 at about Rawlins.  The wind really picked up and there were warning signs about 70+ mile-per-hour winds.  It was blowing so hard, the van doors were whistling which we had never experienced before.  It was a crazy drive and was somewhat difficult to keep the van on the road.  We finally made it to Cheyenne and started south, after which the wind died down and we made it home without further issue.  What a crazy evening!

We’re now home and excited to sleep in our own beds!  🙂

Hanging out in Salmon and Retirement Party!

Today we found out that Kirstyn made the high school musical (Once Upon a Mattress)!  She was SO excited and couldn’t contain herself.  She didn’t get the part she had the callbacks for but another lady in waiting part which is one of the major parts as well.  🙂  That’s pretty great for a freshman to get a main part!  Usually the schools don’t cast that way.  Great job Kirstyn!  Congratulations!

He hung out all day in Salmon and relaxed and enjoyed family company. Ben, Zach, and I went for a walk and enjoyed the clean air and crisp chill.  🙂

After that, the kids spent the day playing and making gingerbread houses.  They had a blast!  We’re not sure if more candy ended up on the houses or inside of their tummies!  🙂

Tonight we had a retirement party for Dad.  He’s finally hanging up the work boots!  🙂  We took Mom and Dad out to dinner to celebrate while all the kids decorated the front of the house and made a surprise party for him (cake and everything)!

Congratulations Dad!  You deserve a break!  Well… only until the middle of January when you go on your 2nd mission together!  🙂

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  Today we had a wonderful time spending time with family and enjoying the Thanksgiving Holiday!  Everyone met at Grandma and Grandpa Hobbs’ home for dinner and we all enjoyed each others company.  As to be expected, there was a TON of food and we were all stuffed when we were done!

The weather is crisp and cold but we enjoy it!   It is beautiful up here in the Salmon River Valley.  Brittany has been taking pictures like crazy…

Right now we’re just relaxing and not doing much which is a needed break for us!  🙂

BYU Idaho Tour and Arrival in Salmon

Today we got up early and drove up to Rexburg to do a BYU Idaho tour.  The girls did the tour while Zach, Ben, and I wandered around campus and checked everything out.  There was no one in the big gym so we went in there and the boys had fun..

After the tour was done, we went to the bookstore and browsed around for awhile.  We then left campus, got some food, and then drove up to Salmon for Thanksgiving.  Brittany enjoyed the campus visit so we’ll see what she decides to do.  She should find out in January whether she has been accepted to BYU-I and then she’ll make her decision.  Right now it’s down to Utah State and BYU-I.

It’s nice to be in  Salmon now and relaxing after all that driving over the past couple of days.  We’re excited to be up here for Thanksgiving!

USU Tour and Brigham City Temple

Today, Angela, Brittany, and Kirstyn got up early (after not much sleep) and drove up to Utah State University in Logan for a campus tour.  Brittany was really excited and is leaning toward USU right now for school.  They had a great time there while the boys and I slept in and then relaxed for most of the day!  🙂

After the tour, I met them at the Brigham City Temple where I was able to do baptisms with the girls.  That was a real highlight for me.

After we got home from the temple, we went up to Chantelle’s for a great dinner and got to spend time with everyone up there.  We love being with family and it’s great that now our drive time is cut down by a LOT to be able to see them.  🙂

Kirstyn Callbacks and Leave for Utah

Today Kirstyn had her callbacks for the musical at the high school!  She was really nervous, but she had practiced a TON around the house and due to the fact that she is such a drama queen anyway, we think she’s got a pretty good chance of making it!

We picked her up after a great callback session and started on the road for Utah at about 5pm.  We rolled into North Ogden at about 2am and we are really tired from the drive.  It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.  We didn’t see or come close to hitting any animals, and with a little Mountain Dew and a book on CD, things went pretty smoothly.  I didn’t have to fight to stay awake!  Whew!  🙂

We’re looking forward to spending the Thanksgiving break with family!

Back Yard Complete!

Our back yard is now complete and we love it!  It took a bit with the torrential downpours we got and other weather-related issues, but it’s done and we couldn’t be happier!

The only thing we don’t have done quite yet is the planter boxes.  We’ll fill those with dirt and get the drip line going in the spring when we plant the garden.

This is SO much better than all the weeds we had out there!  🙂   Thanks Atlas Landscaping and Fencing!  If anyone in our area needs a GREAT job done, we’ll give you Paul’s info!  🙂

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone!  Tonight, Angela and I went out with the boys, while Kirstyn and Melinda Liddell stayed back, watched Disney movies, and handed out candy.  Brittany went with Taylor (her new “boyfriend”) out with some of his friends in Highland’s Ranch.

The boys were really excited!  We went out to our neighborhood and then down to a nearby area which was jam-packed with people!  🙂  We had GREAT results!  People here LOVE to give chocolate!  🙂  We went through a couple of haunted houses that people had set up, and we also saw a lot of people we knew.

When we came back with so much chocolate, Kirstyn and Melinda immediately decided that they wanted to go out, so they hurried and went around our street and came back with a bunch of candy.  🙂

Brittany got home later that night with a bunch as well!  This doesn’t bode well for Angela and my attempts to get into better shape and lose some weight!  😐

Halloween Party with Friends

Tonight we were invited over to the Rollingson’s home for a Halloween party.  It was a ton of fun!  We had some great food, and then in groups we went out on a flashlight scavenger hunt for candy.  They have about 10 acres or so of mostly unimproved land, so it was like taking a hike in the dark through the hills!  The boys played flashlight tag after that, and we had a hard time getting them in the van when it was time to go home!  🙂

Brittany College Acceptance!

Tonight, Brittany and Angela went to a Utah State reception (similar to the one that Sarah and Angela went to in Illinois).  Brittany took her ACT score and transcript with, hoping to get accepted and to get some scholarship money…

She was accepted and given the out-of-state tuition scholarship!  🙂

She is SO excited!  Right now that’s her top school she wants to go to, so she accepted and she is now planning on how to pay for this!  🙂  It’s more than BYU or BYU-i, but not by much (with the scholarship).  She can’t stop talking about it!

Congratulations Brittany!  You’re great!

Dinner with Friends

Today after church, we went to dinner at the Pedersen’s, some friends of ours from the ward.  They’re great friends and Zach and their son Casey are joined at the hip!  It’s funny to watch them.  Casey said that Zach “gets him” and that’s why he likes Zach so much.  🙂  We all had a laugh about that!
