Happy Birthday Kirk!

Today was my big 45th birthday!  Yikes!  I feel young and old at the same time.  Tonight we had a celebration with the Pocock family at our house!  What’s really crazy is that Camille Pocock and I share the same birthday, Angela and Patrick share the same birthday, and Ben and Jake were born one day apart and were in the hospital together.     🙂  We also invited the Liddell family to come and share in the festivities with us.

There were so many candles on the cake for both of us that we thought it would be a fire hazard and also set off the smoke alarms in the house!  🙂

We had a great time eating cake and ice cream and hanging out together telling stories of the old Naperville 2nd Ward, what’s going on now there, and anything else we could think of.

I had a GREAT birthday.  They could slow down a little bit in between, but I can’t do anything about that.  🙂

BYU EFY and Hospital for Ben!

Today Kirstyn got signed-up to go to EFY at BYU Provo!  Turns out they are not doing the stay-at-home EFY like they did last year and in years past due to lack of participation, so we had to find another place.  She is SO excited to go (first week of June) and will be going with Ashley Smith from our old ward in Naperville!  You’ll have a BLAST Kirstyn!  🙂

On Sunday, Ben got a crayon (twist type) stuck in his ear and he wouldn’t let us get it out.  He wouldn’t even let the doctor touch his ear, so today we had to take him to the hospital to be totally put out so they could take 30 seconds and pull it out.  Crazy.  They took a pic of him in the hospital before his “surgery”…

Everything went well with him and he was in and out in about 5 minutes.  Ben will hopefully learn from this that he shouldn’t stick stuff in his ears!  🙂

Super Bowl Sunday

After church today, we went over to the Pocock’s and had dinner and a Super Bowl Party while watching the big game.  We had a GREAT time, despite the horrible score (Broncos got creamed)!  Kirk won the contest for most answers right about the game and got a big ball of chocolate treats!  🙂  It was fun to just hang out with friends, get to know some new people, and eat a lot of food!  🙂

Crazy Saturday

Today was one busy day!  This morning, we had a Primary Ice Cream Social at the church for all the kids who had worked really hard on memorizing their Articles of Faith.  Ben and Zach got to go and they got all sugared-up for the rest of the day.  Right after that, I took them to seeThe Nut Job movie and they really liked it.  It was a fun movie and I liked it better than I thought I would.  It was nice to get out with the boys and have a fun time at the movies.  After that, the boys took advantage of the newly fallen snow overnight and went sledding.  Ben played in the snow since he’s not allowed yet to sled due to his concussion, but he still had fun anyway.  After sledding, they came back and played in the snow in the back yard.

Tonight, the girls went to go see Peter Pan (play) in Parker for Kirstyn’s birthday.  They had a great time and really enjoyed themselves.  I had a great time at home with the boys too.  We had a movie night with some snacks and they had a blast.  🙂

Date Night at the Movies

Tonight, Angela and I had a date night at the movies.  We went and saw the Saratov Approach which was having a special showing.  It’s about 2 missionaries that get kidnapped in Russia and the experience they had.

Many stake members were there.  It was almost like a fireside!  🙂  The only drawback of going tonight was that tomorrow, one of the missionaries will actually be at the theater to give a little talk, preface the movie, and then answer questions afterward.  That would have been really cool.  🙂

It was a really well made movie and was very touching.  I can’t imagine how it must have been going through that.  As it turns out, one of the members of our ward had that happen to him.  He wasn’t kidnapped and held for ransom, but he was kidnapped, drugged, and then released.  It was a crazy experience for him too.

Happy Birthday Kirstyn!

Happy birthday Kirstyn!  It’s hard to believe your big 15!  One more year to driving!  😐  We celebrated opening presents in the morning and then this afternoon quickly with the dinner of her choice.

The girls and Angela then had to run to the church to New Beginnings.  I stayed with the boys.

Hope your birthday was an awesome one!

Pinewood Derby and Dinner with Friends

Today was a busy but FUN one!  Zach had the Pinewood Derby first thing this morning and he was so excited!  We worked hard on his car and were hoping that it was faster than last year.  🙂  I really don’t like the Pinewood Derby because someone always goes away crying, etc.  This year was quite different and I was very impressed!  The cool thing was that Zach got 3rd place overall!  🙂  He was beaming but did not brag and congratulated all the other kids even those who didn’t place.  What a great sport he was.

After the Pinewood Derby, we ran over to Zach’s basketball game.  He won again!  Their team is still undefeated!

Tonight we went over and had dinner with the Pocock family!  It was a ton of fun and it’s so cool that they’re out here now.  We’re working to build up the Naperville presence here in the area!  🙂

Busy Saturday (as Usual)

Today we had a busy Saturday as we usually do.  Zach had a basketball game (which they won)!  He got a couple rebounds and actually got a shot off.  Unfortunately, it didn’t sink but it was close.  🙂  Kirstyn had musical practice all day which she loved but came home dead tired.  We helped a sister in the ward move, Kirstyn had a babysitting job, Brittany had work and a dental appointment, and Angela and I had a date night.  We went out for a quick dinner and that was about all the time we had.  🙂  Craziness!

Dad and Mom in MTC, Work Meetings, Window Well Covers!

Today, Dad and Mom Hobbs went to MTC!  They’ll be there for about a week or so and then take off for the Philippines, Angeles Mission.  I also found out yesterday that our old Stake President (President Scott Clark) just got called as a mission president and that he will be Mom and Dad’s new President in July!  What are the odds of that!  It was really cool to tell that to Mom and Dad.  President Clark was also pretty excited!  🙂

We also got our new window well covers today!  Whew!  Safety can now be found in our back yard!  🙂

I’ll be in meetings here in Chicago for the next 4 days.  I’m excited to get a lot done!

BTW, I had a Portillos Cake Shake today before taking my rental car back!  It was SO good and it made the kids jealous back home!  🙂

Naperville 2nd Ward

Today I got up early and went to the church for meetings.  It was totally awesome!  It was so exciting to see everyone and catch up!  I didn’t make it to Sunday School because everyone wanted to chat and then, when the Naper 3rd ward came in they all wanted to talk as well!   🙂  I did make it to Priesthood Meeting which was great.  I stayed after the block for awhile visiting with everyone that was still there (as well as members of the 4th ward that had just come).

After church, I went back to the Oscarson’s and we had a GREAT dinner.  I was totally stuffed when I packed up and went to the hotel to get ready for my 4 days of meetings.

Thanks Dan and Stephanie for being wonderful hosts!

Chicago Here I Come!

Today, I left for Chicago on business!  I decided to go out a few days early, rent a car, and go see a bunch of our friends!  A friend of ours, John Sabo, passed away and I was able to get there on time to attend his funeral.  It was nice but I felt really self-conscious because I was in jeans (came right from the airport).    I got to see a BUNCH of our friends there and they also invited me to stay for the luncheon afterward.  It was nice to talk to everyone.  Before leaving I took a picture of the church.  🙂

After the funeral, I went and picked up Brittany’s Metea Valley yearbook from the Gaul’s.  It was great to see them again and I had a great chat with them.  I then went around and took a bunch of pictures of our old house, the high school, middle school, and much more.  I drove Brittany and Kirstyn crazy by calling them and saying things like “guess where I am now?”  They want to come back here and visit so bad!

Tonight I went over to the Oscarson’s and stayed with them.  I’m going to go to our old ward tomorrow and am very excited to see everyone!  It’s really cool being back here because of all the positive memories that we made over the last 18 years of living here.  You don’t have to worry about the negatives (property taxes being so high, bankrupt and corrupt state, etc.)  🙂
