Family Getaway – Day 2

We had fun today (day 2 of our YMCA of the Rockies getaway)!  We did some more programs and activities, played in the game room (pool, etc.), played basketball on the outside courts (it was a little chilly), and enjoyed the beautiful day.

On the drive home, we passed a beautiful rock church and so we had to stop and take a look.   It’s really out in the middle of nowhere but the Pope visited it awhile back and put it on the map.

We’re home now and Brittany’s at work.  What a great time we had!  The kids said they can’t wait to back, especially the boys.  The only thing we didn’t get to do up there is go swimming because being so early in the year, they didn’t have a full staff (including lifeguards) up there, so they had to limit the number of people that could go in at a time.  There was always a long line coming out of the pool house, so we thought our time would be better spent doing other things.

Family Getaway – Day 1

Yesterday we decided to do a last-minute getaway and we found an incredible place to go…  YMCA of the Rockies!  It’s up in Estes Park (northwest of Denver right at the mouth of Rocky Mountain National Park).  We reserved a room up there and headed up this morning.  The girls went to the temple and did baptisms early and while they were doing that, Angela, the boys and I picked up some last minute things for our overnight trip.  We weren’t sure what to expect up there, but we were VERY pleasantly surprised.  They have so much to do, even in March!  They have a craft lodge, a swimming pool, rock climbing, roller skating, mini-golf, basketball, hiking, a large game room and all kinds of programs that the kids could take.

The kids really had a great time!  We went mini-golfing, which was a little difficult due to the snow up there still on some of the holes, but we had a great time anyway!  Zach and Ben took some classes on nature, how to tie knots, and survival.  We went roller skating and played basketball and much more.

The scenery was absolutely beautiful up there!  We ran into some huge elk coming back into town for dinner.  They were beautiful!  We love it out here!  Such beautiful scenery everywhere we go, and the best part is that it’s NOT flat!

It’s the end of the day now and we are absolutely dead tired.  We have a big day tomorrow, full of more activities and then we’ll head back home at about 1pm so that Brittany can go to work  🙂

Brittany Home from Illinois

Tonight we picked up at airport after her trip to Illinois.  Today she went and hung out at the school with the band folks and such and had a blast!  There were many double-takes as people saw her.  They simply said hi because they all knew who she was like she should be there normally and then realized that she really was there!  🙂  Anyway, she talked the whole way home non-stop about how awesome it was.  She did say, however, that she was glad to be back home and it’s starting to feel like home here now.  That is a great relief to us!  🙂

Mormon Prom in Illinois

Brittany left yesterday and flew out to Illinois to go to Mormon Prom with her friends.  She had a blast going to prom and seeing many of her friends there!

She called home after and had nothing but great things to say!  She’s having a BLAST out there!

One Year Walk-through!

Today was our one-year walk-through with Lennar!  We can’t believe it’s already been almost a year since we moved here!  We had a home inspection done prior to that and gave John from Lennar a bunch of things that were found after the year of living here.  They’re going to take care of those things and we’re really glad we waited to do the home inspection until near the year mark.

We love our home and look forward to many years of enjoyment!  🙂

Busy Saturday!

Today was a crazy day!  We helped the Pedersen’s (friends of ours) move.  Zach came with me while Grandma and Grandpa watched Ben.  After that, Brittany held her Birth Rocks Internship Luncheon which Angela helped with.  It turned out really nice, and even though the attendance wasn’t too high, they had a really enjoyable time.  Great job getting all this together Brittany!  You Rock!

Tonight was Musical Night 3!  Grandma and Grandpa went again to see it and said it was even better than night 2!  Great job Kirstyn!

CVHS Musical – Night 2!

Night 2 of Once Upon a Mattress was AWESOME as well!  Kirstyn is such a great little performer!  She was only one of two freshmen girls in the entire cast!

Way to break a leg Kirstyn!  You are awesome!  It looks like all the dramatics around the house paid off!  🙂  We love you!

Sad Weekend for the Family

This weekend was a sad one for the family.  David and Gina gave birth to a very premature baby they named Cacia.  After living for  a couple of days, she passed quietly to return to live with her heavenly father.  This weekend was the funeral so we all went to Salmon to support the family.  It was very sad but also comforting to know that all she needed to do was come to earth to get a body and then return.

Unfortunately with Mom and Dad on their mission in the Philippines, they couldn’t be there.  We Skyped them in for as much as we could and then sent them pictures.  The Hobbs kids also got a picture together.

With us being in Salmon, Zach missed his final championship basketball game.  They won and went undefeated for the season!  SWEET!  Much better than his team last year!  He got a cool trophy for the undefeated season as well and is pretty proud of it.  🙂

Great job this season Zach!

Ben’s Birthday!

Happy 6th Birthday Ben!  Today we celebrated what just yesterday seemed to be Ben’s first birthday!  Now he’s 6 and growing fast!  🙂  We had a little party for him as a family and he got to open his presents and have a cake that Zach helped bake and decorate (as you can see, Ben loves Oreos).  🙂

He was so excited to be 6!  For the past 2 weeks, he has been talking about nothing else.  “When I turn 6…”  “When I’m 6 I’m going to…” “I can’t wait until I’m 6…”  We’re now just waiting for the “I can’t wait until I’m 7” comments.  🙂  Happy birthday big guy!

Busy Weekend

What a busy day we had on Saturday!  Ben went to a party for his good friend Jake, and Zach and I helped some friends move.  Saturday evening, we went to Stake Conference at the Stake Center.  Brittany was assigned to speak, and she did an OUTSTANDING job!  Her talk was very inspiring.  Right after she spoke, I had to run Kirstyn to a party she was invited to.

Sunday we had the first Stake Conference broadcast in our new building.  It went really well and we enjoyed the meetings very much!  It’s cool having a new building so things are not so crowded.  Our ward was in charge of ushering and parking.

Health Fair and Ward FHE Activity

Today we went to a huge health and wellness fair at the Douglas County Fairgrounds here in Castle Rock.  Brittany worked there with her job and so we went to see her.  The kids got a lot of vendor stuff.  The boys also had a chance to climb a rock wall.  They had a blast!

Tonight we had a ward Family Home Evening activity and our family taught a session on how to do FHE with teens in the house.  It was very well attended and we had a great time doing it.  🙂
