Fun Extended Weekend in Wyoming

It seems like all we’re doing is going places and having a great time nowadays!  🙂  We just a had a GREAT weekend up in northern (the beautiful part) of Wyoming with Angela’s brother Jim and his family.  Unfortunately, Brittany had to work so she couldn’t come, but she called to check on us a lot to make sure we were OK.  🙂

We had a great extended weekend (Thursday – Sunday) hiking, fishing, boating, horseback riding, having a BBQ, going to church, and hanging out with them.

On Thursday night, we had a BBQ with them and some friends that live up there.  The wife went to high school with Angela and they hadn’t seen each other for over 20 years!

On Friday, we went out on Jim’s boat on the lake and river!  We went up from Wyoming into Montana on the river as well and saw some beautiful country!  The boys and Kirstyn REALLY loved that!

After boating, we went back to the house and did a little horseback riding, which Kirstyn was especially excited for!

After a good night sleep (and a much needed one after all the fun activities), we went fishing and hiking all the next day!  We had a blast and the boys had a LOT of fun casting their lines in a pond and catching fish!  Zach wasn’t quite sure about pulling apart worms and sticking them on a hook at first, but eventually he got to be pretty good!

We then all went hiking around the area and it was beautiful!  We hiked down to an incredible waterfall and enjoyed the cool temps down there!

Today we got up and went to church with Jim and his family.  After that, we started the long 9 hour drive back home!  We had such a great time!  Thanks so much to Jim and Heather and the kids for having us up there!  We can’t wait to go back!  🙂

Rockies Game with the Boys

Today, the boys and I were invited by a friend of ours (Ty Martin) to go with him and his boys to a Rockies game!  We had a blast!  The boys had a great time and loved the experience of watching baseball, eating hot dogs, drinking drinks, and waiting for foul balls to come our way (which, unfortunately, they didn’t).  🙂

The Rockies beat the Padres 2-1 tonight and the boys were excited for the win!  Thanks for the invite Ty!  We had a great time!

Rocky Mountain National Park Camping Trip

Happy Birthday Zach!  Big 10!  To celebrate (in a way), over the last 2 days, we went on a camping trip with our friends the Pocock’s to Rocky Mountain National Park!  It was such a great getaway and even though it rained the night of the 4th and we got a little soggy, the weather was great and we had a wonderful time!  We went hiking all over and drove to some absolutely stunning sites!

No, that picture above is NOT of a stuffed elk!  It’s the real deal.  We were so close to it, we could have walked up and pet it (absolutely NOT the smart thing to do)!  🙂

Up on the northern side of the park, we drove way up into the mountains and hiked up to the top of a 12,000+ foot ridge that had stunning views!

We sure do love living here!  You can’t get these kinds of views in the midwest!  🙂  Everyone had so much fun!  On the drive home, we went through Granby and visited some friends of ours (the Pedersen’s) from our ward.  They used to live there year-round, but they now just have a trailer up there and go up on weekends.  We went out to dinner with them before heading back home!

What a GREAT weekend so far!  I think Zach really liked that experience as part of his birthday present!  🙂

Lost Front Teeth and Return from Camp

Today, Ben lost his 2 front teeth!  He was SO excited for 2 reasons:  1)  the Tooth Fairy, and 2) he is becoming a “big boy!”  We had to laugh about that.  He’s quite the kid!

In addition, today, Kirstyn came home from girl’s camp!  She had a GREAT time and loved the experience!  She was so worried that she would not be able to break her board (interesting challenge that I don’t really understand too much other than the fact that it signifies you overcame your challenges) on the first hit of her hand!  🙂  Great job Kirstyn!

When we picked her up she was pretty ripe from all that hiking and lack of showering, but she was really happy!

When she got back home and got all her smelly things unpacked, she took a LONG shower (I would venture to guess at least 30 minutes)!  🙂

BYU Soccer Camp and Game!

The BYU Men’s Soccer Team was in town for a couple of games and they held a clinic at a nearby high school, so we signed up the boys to go.  The players taught the boys a lot of skills and helped them to become better.   Zach really wants to play soccer now because of this.  After the clinic, the players hung around, signed autographs, and talked more with the kids.  Ben got his ball signed by a couple of them as well.

Tonight we went to the game to see them play!  It was really fun!  Turns out that the BYU Men’s Soccer organization is actually semi-pro!  They won so many national championships that they needed more competition, so BYU actually bought a semi-pro club and now the team competes all over the nation!  🙂

The boys really loved the game and sat down as close to the field as they could.  At halftime, they got to go down on the field and cheer the team as it came back out on the field.  It’s really amazing to see that no matter what sport or event BYU is involved in, the kind of crowd that comes out to support!  The stands were filled with BYU fans!  🙂

Visit to the Denver Mint

Today, Angela took Kirstyn, Zach, and Ben to the Denver Mint on a field trip.  They had a great time and learned a lot!  Zach especially likes these kinds of historical/social studies types of trips.  He really eats up the knowledge that can be gained.  🙂

Ben’s favorite part was that he got a penny rolled out and stamped from the mint.  🙂

Swimming Lessons

Zach and Ben are in swimming lessons now, as normal, love them.  They are just two fish out of water we think.  The recreation center teachers are good and the boys like them.  Zach especially likes going off the diving board.  🙂

They both passed their classes with flying colors and can’t wait to get into swimming lessons again!  🙂  Great job boys!

Ben in T-Ball!

Ben started t-ball and is SO excited to be playing!  He had his first game today and loved it!  He did quite well considering he’s never played before.  He may just turn into being one of the best hitters on the team.  He sure has an eye for the ball!

He has a great set of coaches, and all the kids on his team are from Aspen View so he knows all of them.  It’s really fun to watch them play and we all as parents have a great laugh seeing them try and figure out how to play the game, where to run after they hit the ball, etc.

Great job, Ben!

Happy 18th Birthday Brittany!

Happy BIG 18th Birthday Brittany!  When Brittany woke up this morning, she let us know that she was now an adult and was fully responsible and could do whatever she wanted now.  🙂  Not sure what the life-changing event was between 11:59pm last night and 12:01am this morning that would make such a difference.  We got a good laugh about it (although we don’t think Brittany thought it was that funny).  🙂

We celebrated and she opened her presents.  Sarah gave her some leggings she found at a store there in CA and Brittany was really excited as you can tell!

Kirstyn also had a practice hike for girl’s camp today.  She’s really excited (but a little nervous) about her 4th year hike.  She’ll do great!

Our Friend for the Summer

Today we inherited a new friend for the summer.  Brittany’s best friend here, Sierra, just moved (which was VERY sad for Brittany), but she had a pet gecko that she couldn’t take with her.  That said, she decided to give the gecko to the biology teacher at the school when classes start up again.  Brittany volunteered keep her pet until school started again.

Needless to say, the boys love it and they think it’s really fun to play with!  As long as it doesn’t get out, stuck in a heater vent and die, I’m OK.  🙂

Kirstyn Goes to EFY and Fun Week in Park City

This last week was a crazy but fun week!  I decided to lump all o f the craziness into one post…  On Sunday after church, Angela packed Kirstyn, the boys, and Josh Ahlstrom (a friend of ours) into the van and drove out to Utah.  The whole week Kirstyn and Ashley Smith, her best friend from Illinois went to EFY at BYU in Provo (reason we took Josh out too).  They had a blast and could not stop talking about it, even after they came home.  🙂

While Kirstyn was at EFY, Angela and the boys met Carla and most of her kids in Park City where they stayed the week at Brian’s (Angela’s brother) vacation home there.  They went to see Grandma Burns, Auntie Carla, Mark and Jocelyn, played outside, went to a couple temples to visit, and of course, they went shopping too.  🙂

Where were Brittany and I?  We were at home working.  🙁  We had some fun though and it was actually quite relaxing!  🙂

Brittany’s Graduation Party!

Today we had a graduation open house/party for Brittany (along with a partial 18th birthday party for her as well).  We had a lot of people come over and congratulate her on a job well done and have some food from our build-your-own nacho bar!

We had a great time chatting with everyone and Brittany was excited to see a bunch of her friends there.

After the open house was officially over, we pulled out the fire pit and Brittany and her friends roasted marshmallows and hung out for awhile.

Congratulations Brittany!  We’re so proud of you and love you!
