Bridal Shower

Today Angela and Camille Poccock hosted a bridal shower for Julia Liddell Bridal Shower at our home.  She’s getting married on Friday and they wanted to do something nice for her.  They had a great time and Julia really appreciated it.

They played a bunch of crazy games and such and I guess some of the possible brides-to-be there were dressed up in toilet paper wedding gowns.  😐

Only at a bridal shower…  🙂

Missionaries for Dinner

Today we fed the missionaries.  Elder Schilling is the son of a couple that got engaged right before us at BYU and were in our ward.  🙂  Small world.

We really enjoy feeding them and we like to take pictures of them to post or send to their parents!  🙂  We love it when people in Sarah’s mission to that for us.  🙂

Camping with the Boys at Devil’s Head

Last night, the girls had to work, but we wanted to get a camping trip in before it started getting colder, so we took the boys up for an overnight camping trip to Devil’s head!  We had a fun time there with them!  It rained a bit but then cleared right up!  We had fun building a fire, pitching the tent, and eating!  The boys, as always, wanted to go exploring so Angela and I took turns doing that.

We slept pretty well (as good as can be expected) and this morning, we got up, cooked a nice hot breakfast of bacon and eggs, and then hiked up to Devil’s Head.  The weather was absolutely beautiful and perfect for hiking!  We love that hike because it’s not too long and the views are stunning!  The boys always love the ranger fire lookout (although Zach was bummed because it wasn’t open yet when we got there).  I guess we’ll have to do it next time more in the middle of the day.  🙂

After we got done with our hike, we went back and packed up camp.  By that time, the girls were already at work, so we went and saw them before going home.  We all walked in there, dirty, smelling like smoke, and happy.  I’m sure that the girls were about as embarrassed as they could be!  🙂

After the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory visit, we all went home, unpacked, took showers, and relaxed on our soft sofas instead of on the hard ground!  🙂  Thanks for a great overnight campout boys!  🙂

Zach Starts Soccer

Zach started Soccer today!  It was kind-of unexpected, but we got a call from the coach (who is also the dad of one of Zach’s friends at school) asking him if he wanted to play.  There were a few of his friends on the team and they were short and needed players.  We talked with Zach and he got excited about it so we signed him up.

He is playing with the Colorado Storm league.  It is a competitive travel league!  😐  Fortunately the games aren’t too far away (at least in the Denver area).  We had to purchase jerseys (home and away), shorts, cleats, new shin guards, and the whole works.  The registration cost was pretty steep, but I think Zach will do well and have fun.  He’s pretty excited! Go Zach!  🙂

Jumping Place Fun

Angela took the boys and a couple of friends to a jump/bounce house place to have one last fling before school started!  They had a great time and got their energy out in prep for sitting in the classroom! 🙂

DC Fair Parade

Today was the Douglas County Fair parade and Kirstyn played in the CVHS Marching Band in it.  We had a fun time watching all the entries.  We got a good laugh because the women’s roller derby team was in the parade, the Castle Rock n’ Rollers.  One of them was on The Amazing Race a season or so back and Angela wanted to meet her!  So, she ran out into the group and talked with them for a bit (right in the middle of the street during the parade)!  🙂  It was pretty funny.  Turns out she wasn’t there which bummed Angela.  🙂  LOL!

Kirstyn did a great job playing!  We were unfortunately on the wrong side of the road so we didn’t get great pictures of her, but oh well, they did great anyway!

Great job Kirstyn!  You guys sounded awesome!  🙂  We enjoyed the rest of the parade with our friends, the Pedersen’s and the boys got lots of candy.  After that we went home and enjoyed the rest of our Saturday cleaning house and then relaxing!  🙂

Mutton Bustin’ Ben and the DC Fair!

Today we went to the Douglas County Fair!  We haven’t been to a county fair in a very long time and it was a lot of fun!  We signed Ben up for the mutton bustin’ competition where kids can ride the back of a sheep just like the big guys ride broncos and bulls.  🙂  Ben got all dressed up in his best cowboy gear and was SO excited!

They got him all decked out in padding and helmet got him, situated on the back of a pretty big sheep, opened the gate, and off he went!  He didn’t last very long but he held on tight and had a blast!

He probably will weigh too much next year to do it but he told me that if he does, he’ll start losing weight so he can do it again!  🙂  I had a good laugh about that!  🙂

The young women were coming back to the fair for an activity to watch the bull riding competition, so Angela and Kirstyn left to go to the church.  The boys and I hung out at the fair for awhile longer, got some dinner, and enjoyed taking a look at all the animals and such!

What a great time we had!  Hope you enjoyed all the fair boys!  We’ll have to go back every year!  🙂

Happy Birthday Angela (and Patrick)!

Happy Birthday Angela!  We had a little family celebration with presents and such this morning…

Tonight we had an awesome birthday party for Angela (and also Patrick Pocock who shares the same birthday (just like his wife Camille and I share the same birthday).  🙂  Our good friends the Stradlings from our old ward in Naperville were in town so they their family joined us, along with the Liddell family!  We had pizza and cake and had fun catching up with the goings on of the old ward (all 4 of our families were in the same ward in IL at one point).  🙂

It was fun to see all the kids together again having fun!  We sure do miss the families we left behind in Naperville!  It IS great, however, to have some of them now out here with us!  🙂

Garden Producing Vegetables

Our garden boxes are doing pretty well and are starting to yield a harvest!  Most of what we’re getting are cucumbers, zucchini and tomatoes.  🙂

The other things are growing a little slower but that’s to be expected.  The growing season here in Colorado is MUCH shorter than it was in Illinois so we have to stay right on it.  We can get freezes here up to Mother’s day, so the time to plant is right after that.  Great job on the garden Angela!  You rock!

Swimming and Pioneer Day BBQ

The boys are back in swimming lessons and they are going well!  They love the water and want to go swimming ALL the time!

Tonight our home teaching families came over for a 24th of July BBQ.  Not sure why, but we didn’t get any pictures.  Due to some rain, we had to cut the outdoor part a little short and come inside to eat dessert.  A funny (but embarrassing) thing happened.  As the rain let up, Ben and Zach went back out to do stick pull.

Ben got hit in the stomach while they were doing it.  He came in and said he wasn’t feeling well and proceeded to throw up all over our floor right by the kitchen table and right in front of everyone.  : – |  Yikes!  After that and getting cleaned up, he felt MUCH better!

Only at the Halliday home in front of guests…  🙂

Fun at Tee-Ball Game

Ben LOVES playing baseball!  He had his last game today and they celebrated with cupcakes after.  He’s quite the great little hitter and is learning the game slowly but surely…

He still has his moments though, where we wonder what he’s thinking…  🙂

Great job on a GREAT season Ben!  He can’t wait to play next year!

Kirstyn’s New Job!

Today, Kirstyn started working at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory with Brittany!  She is so excited to now have a source of income and savings for college!  What cute girls!

Since Kirstyn is still in school, she won’t be working a TON of hours, but enough to give her some cash and help her learn to balance the responsibilities of work and school.  🙂  I guess I can say that we are now officially a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory family!  All of our girls work or have worked there!  🙂
