Angela and Ben Back Home!

Angela and Ben arrived safely back home today and it is GREAT to have them back!  We also got Zach’s school picture today.  They all had tie-dye shirts for their pictures (his school class).  Since he came in late, they only had one left and it was a tad snug on him.  🙂  He hated his smile, but that’s OK.  🙂

Tonight, Castle View High School had a combined band, chorus, orchestra end of year concert where all the groups showed-off their talents.  Brittany performed well in the orchestra.  The music program here at Castle View is not quite what it was at Metea and in District 204, but the girls will continue to work hard and be the best they can be.  🙂

Great job Brittany!

Stake Women’s Conference, First Dance, and Prom Invites

Today the Stake held a Women’s Conference, and the girls went with Angela to it.  They had a good time (although the girls didn’t think they would at first).  🙂  They got to know more people from our ward and some from the stake.

Tonight was the highlight of the girl’s week.  After another week getting used to school, they were ready for a break!  They went to their first dance out here in CO.  They had a blast and really enjoyed themselves!  They came home talking up a storm about how much they liked it and about how many people were there compared to the dances in IL.  Good to see some smiles on the girl’s faces.

Zach had a blast his first week of school!  He made some new friends and is really enjoying his new class.  His teacher is very kind too and is working hard to make sure he feels comfortable.  Looks like Zach is adjusting a lot faster to his new environment than the girls are, which makes us very relieved.  We didn’t know what to expect with him.  In addition, we didn’t get any calls from the teacher about his behavior this week, so we’re in good shape!  🙂

Yesterday Brittany decided to ask Reese Graves to Mormon Prom.  Reese is the son of Steve Graves who works for me.  The family is also in our ward.  She made him two big chocolate chip cookies (pizza-sized) with the invitation on them.  She delivered them and he was pretty excited as those are his favorite cookies.  I think his family was more excited about the invitation!  🙂

Today, Brittany found a big “Yes” sign on our garage from Reese.  She is SO excited!

The crazy thing is that this weekend, she also got asked out to the High School prom by Josh Sproul, another young man in our ward.  He gave her roses with the invitation and she was very excited about that too!  Not sure exactly why she is down about being here!  I think at least this weekend, she forgot about the fact that she should be sad that she’s not in IL anymore.

Brittany answered Josh with a big cookie and thanks for the roses as well.  She’s going to have a busy next couple of weeks!  🙂

Brittany ACT & Mountain Driving

Today, Brittany had the ACT.  We got up early and drove up to the high school they were taking the test at and dropped her off.  We then came home and did some housework and unpacking.  Hopefully things went well with the test.  She feels she did OK, but we’ll see what happens!  🙂

We picked her up as a family and decided to go driving up into the mountains.  It was a gorgeous day and we wanted some fresh mountain air.  We didn’t drive far, but we saw some great views.  We visited Buffalo Bill’s grave (in the mountains just outside of Denver).  We took a whole bunch of pictures.

You never get views or fresh air like that in Illinois!  Being out in nature today really helped the kids appreciate where we now live!

Illinois Lunch and First Week of School!

Angela had a virtual lunch with her Naperville/Aurora IL girls group.  They had lunch out there and then called Angela and Skyped with her and she did a tour of the house.  Was quite sad when finished because she misses them.  Today the first week of school finished up for the girls out here.  Brittany has made some friends but is still sad and misses her IL friends.  Seminary went very well and Brittany’s teacher is wonderful!  He is watching out for her and making sure he does what he can to keep her happy!  Kirstyn is enjoying school out here too.  Things are so much more laid-back here than in District 204, however.  Here you have open campus, and there seems to be more free time to do homework and such.  The way the schedule runs is way different too.  The girls complained some, but we had to keep telling them that different is not bad.  Different is just different, and that they will get used to things.  🙂

Last Day of School in Illinois!

What a crazy moment for all of our kids!  Today was their last day of school in Illinois!  They are excited to go to Colorado, but they all came home wondering why we were doing this and really wanting to be more with their Illinois friends!  Spring break starts this week, so I’m sure they will want to spend as much time with their friends as they can before we go.  Also, yesterday was Zach’s last Cub Scout activity with his Den before leaving.  They went on a trip to Citibank and learned all about how banking works.

Brittany Concert

Tonight, Brittany had her last Metea Orchestra concert.  Again, as I say in about every post concerning the fine arts programs in District 204, it never ceases to amaze me at how talented the kids are.  We hope that the music program in wherever we end up in Colorado is good, but we can’t even hope for it to be near as good as the Grammy-winning district we are in right now.

I think it will be up to the kids to keep practicing and working even harder than before to keep up their talent.  We hope that they’ll do so.

Great job Brittany!  You rock!

Kirstyn Solo and Ensemble

Kirstyn participated in the District 204 Solo and Ensemble Festival today with a group of her friends.  They sang beautifully and got the highest marks from the judge.  Before the competition, they all went out and bought matching outfits (which they probably had just as much fun doing as they did singing).  🙂 They were really happy.

We told the chorus director the news about the sale and she was even more sad.  She really wanted Kirstyn to participate in the school musical which she won’t be able to do because we will be gone by then.  🙁

Kirstyn Made the Still Basketball Team!

Kirstyn made the Still Middle School Basketball Team again this year!!!  We hope she’ll be able to finish out the season before we move.  She was SO excited when she found out and couldn’t wait to get out on the court!  Their first game today was against Scullen, and they did pretty well.  They didn’t win, but they had a great time!  Given some time, Kirstyn will be right back up where she left off last year.  It helped that she played recreation ball in the off-season.

She’s the tallest on the team and will be playing center again this year.  She’s learning to be more aggressive and actually went up and got fouled today and got to go to the line!  She also made one of her shots!

Tonight was Gombert’s Open House as well.  This will be the last Open House we go to at Gombert.  It feels really weird as we have been going to Open Houses there for the last 15 years!  Crazy!  Zach was very excited for us to come.

We also had our ARTspeaks meeting tonight as well.  The group was very bummed when we told them that we were moving and wouldn’t be part of the group anymore.  🙁

Kirstyn Band and Chorus Concert

Tonight, Kirstyn had a wonderful Band and Chorus Concert at Still.  She did a great job (as usual).  This could be her last concert at the school and she was kind-of sad, but is excited to move.  The band and chorus teachers are not too happy about that, but she’s in 8th grade and will be moving on anyway.  🙂

Way to go Kirstyn.  You sound great!  We know you’ll be great wherever we move to and be a rock star!

Busy Day!

Today was absolutely crazy busy!  Kirstyn played in one of her last basketball games (and did very well I might add).  She has really enjoyed the opportunity to play recreation ball to keep up her skills for hopefully making the Still Middle School Team again this year.  Kirstyn then went up to Metea and participated in the district Science Fair.

Her project dealt with how different kinds of sugar affected dough’s ability to rise.  It was MUCH better than her project on how liquids affected metals (i.e.  penny in rotting orange juice that smelled horrific!).  🙂  She did a GREAT job and she ended up being selected to go to the regional science fair next month!  What a great accomplishment for our little scientist!  She was very excited!

The whole time this was going on, Zach had a play date with his friend Diego and they had a blast!

Brittany got 4 tickets for the Bulls vs. Nuggets tonight and arranged a double date with 3 of her friends (Arielle, Logan, and DT).  We wouldn’t let them drive down, so I arranged with a friend of mine to get 4 tickets as well!  I got a double date with Angela and Arielle’s mom and dad!  The 8 of us piled into the van and went out to dinner together and then to the game!  They were happy that our tickets were not by theirs and we tried to stay away from their group and conversation (even at dinner).  It was pretty funny.

The game was great and our tickets were even better than  Brittany’s this time.  We were pretty close to the floor and could see everything well!

What a great time we had!  The kids weren’t too bad when it came to hanging out with parents.  They only pretended they didn’t know us when we tried to take their pictures at the game.

Sarah Back to School!

Sarah flew back to school early this morning.  Sniff sniff.  🙁  It was great having her home over the past couple of weeks and we all sure enjoyed it!  Her papers for her mission are going in and now we’re just waiting to hear where she’s going!  Best of luck this Semester, Sarah!

Sarah goes Bowling!

Tonight  BYU played San Diego State in the Poinsettia Bowl!  It was televised on ESPN, and Sarah was there!  The game was AWESOME and BYU beat San Diego State 23 to 6!  Go Cougars!  There was a sign there that we thought was absolutely hilarious…  it said “The Mayan world may end tomorrow, but the Aztec world ends tonight!”  🙂  We recorded the game in hopes that we would see Sarah and right toward the end, we did!!!  We were so excited!  We were taking pictures of the TV screen for posterity sake!

She had such a blast down there!  At first she was kind of bummed that she couldn’t come home, but after being down there one day, she forgot about that!  She said that they had so much fun that it was almost sad to leave the band and come back home!  🙂  Go Cougars Football, and go BYU Marching Band!  🙂
