School Change and Back to School Night

Today we got a phone call and found out that Ben and Zach got into the new Aspen View Academy!  We are really excited as this is what we really wanted, but torn because they have such great teachers right now and they have already been in school for a couple of weeks.  After thinking hard and praying about it, we fell that Aspen View is where they need to be, so we accepted the invitation to attend, and will be pulling the boys out of Clear Sky.

They are bummed about not being with their new friends they made, but they also know a bunch of kids that are going to Aspen View so they are excited about that!   The cool thing is that they have to wear uniforms which is a wonderful thing, but it will be crazy to try and get everything ordered and delivered before school starts!  The school is just being finished and so classes won’t start this year until the first part of September.

Tonight we also had back to school night for Brittany and Kirstyn.  It was fun to meet their teachers and introduce ourselves so they know us!

Brittany First Day of School!

Today was Brittany’s first day back to school as a SENIOR!  Where has the time gone?  Before you know it, Angela and I will be empty nesters!  🙁

I think that Brittany is excited for her senior year, but I also think she’s just as excited to have her senior year over, graduate, and go to college.  😐  Best of luck this year Britt!  🙂  We love you!

Kirstyn First Day of School and Visitors from Illinois!

Today was Kirstyn’s first day of High School!  She was SO excited to jump right in, have fun, and start learning a ton!  She was a little nervous as everyone is the first day of school, but when she came home, she was really excited.  She made some new friends and that’s great!  Brittany’s first day isn’t until tomorrow which made her happy!  🙂

Mom and Dad also went back home today.  We’ll miss them, but they’re coming back in about a month to watch the girls perform their halftime show and see a marching band performance.

Also, tonight, we had dinner at our home with Steve and Saundra Horne, some great friends of ours from Illinois!  Their son lives north of Denver and just blessed their new baby yesterday.  We called them and invited them over and they were happy to come.  It was great to see them again and catch up on how things are going out in our old stomping grounds!

Brittany Senior Pictures

Today, Dad and I took a bunch of pictures for Brittany’s senior picture portfolio.  We found a great spot, although I think that right there is the ONLY spot in Colorado with mosquitoes.  We had to fend them off, but got some great pics!

We love you cutie!  After we got done, we had to pull out the anti-itch stick, but other than that, we had a great time!  🙂

Day of Festivities!

Today we got up early and went and had breakfast Applebee’s.  It was for a school music fundraiser so we thought it was a great thing to support.  The students served us.  🙂  After that, we went and watched the Douglas County Fair Parade in which the girls were both marching in the band.

They sounded really good and looked really professional.  They are really enjoying marching band although Brittany really misses her Metea marching band friends.  They keep her posted on what’s going on back in IL.

After the parade, we went back home and the boys and I played baseball in our backyard until we were totally hot and worn out.  🙂

We relaxed the rest of the day and enjoyed having mom and dad and Ally with us.

Tonight Angela and I attended the Grant Thornton Denver Office Summer Soiree.  It was at the Curtis Hotel in downtown Denver.  We had a lot of fun hanging out, eating some good food, and playing Jenga!  🙂

Boy’s First Day of School

Today was the boys first day of school at Clear Sky Elementary.  It was also Ben’s first day of elementary school as a new Kindergartner!  😐  That’s the last first day of Kindergarten we’ll ever have for one of our own!  🙁  We were feeling really old today!  Ben was a bit nervous to go but was excited as well.

When they got to school, Angela walked Ben into class.  We didn’t know about specific traditions, like the kids all getting there early on the first day of school, so Ben was early to school but a little late getting into his class with everyone else.  He jumped right in and looked like he was going to have a GREAT time!  Zach hit the ground running as a new 4th grader with no snags and we know he’ll do great too!

Kindergarten is full day but only on Monday, Wednesday, and every other Friday here.  You have to pay extra for full-day every day Kindergarten.  That makes things nice because it saves Angela having to make extra trips to the school!  🙂  The boys got out right on time and were really excited to tell us all about their first day!

They can’t wait for tomorrow!  As a reward, Angela let them hang around the park by the school for awhile and play, which was a good thing.  It got a lot of their excess energy out for when they got home!  🙂  Great first day boys!

Swimming Lessons & Back to School Night

Today was a busy day.  The boys had swimming lessons (which have been going on all week) and really love them.  They are quite the fish out of water.  🙂  Their teachers are having them jump off the diving boards and everything.  Ben was a little nervous about that at first, but after the first time, that’s all he wanted to do…forget about the technique and actual swimming strokes!

Tonight we had back-to-school night for the boys.  They are really excited to be at Clear Sky Elementary, and their teachers seem really good, especially Zach’s teacher.  She comes highly regarded from many people we know.  We know he’ll have a GREAT year!  We were hoping that the boys could have gotten into Aspen View Academy (the new charter school that is just finishing up just across the way from us) but that’s OK.  They’ll do great wherever they are!  🙂

After running over to back to school night for the boys, we went over to the high school to attend a freshman parent meeting for Kirstyn.  We are excited about her being at Castle View High School!  It will be a great and challenging thing for her and we hope she does well.   We were able to meet, introduce ourselves to, and talk with the principal there and we were really impressed with him.  He seems to have very high values (not just educational, but personal and moral ones as well).  Brittany and Kirstyn will love that environment.

Zach the Entrepreneur!

Zach is coming up on the last day of school and as part of this, they have an entrepreneur day where his class brought in stuff to sell and see how they could do.  He decided to make cupcakes, but not only did he do that, he dressed up in his apron, had a great sales sign, brought the cupcake decorative stands we have, and was really outgoing!  🙂

He ended up coming in second place in his class!  🙂  He was quite the little sales guy.  He was so excited that things went well and he is now trying to make all kinds of things and sell them to us!  🙂  Great job Zach!

Youth Conference and Marching Band Boot Camp

The girls had youth conference (Kirstyn’s first) over the last 2 1/2 days.  They had a blast!  Came home talking like crazy about everything. Kirstyn and Brittany also had Marching Band kick-off and rehearsal for 4 hours on Thursday and Friday.  They had to miss some of youth conference for that, but everything worked out just fine.  They are making some great new friends and having a fun time here.  Brittany told us the other day that she is embracing the move and that it is a good thing for her.  🙂  That made us pretty excited!

George Washington Goes to Clear Sky

Today, Zach gave his year-end report on a famous person he admired.  He has been working on this report for the past month and has been enjoying it very much.  He chose George Washington.  He dressed up like George and gave his report beautifully (from what we heard)!

He gets done with school next week and he is excited but a little sad because he has really enjoyed it and made some friends who he likes to spend time with.  Great job Zach!

Last Day of Middle and High School!

Today was the last day of school for the girls!  They are excited to be out.  They have struggled with the move but have made some good friends and have been having fun as well.  It will take a bit more adjustment, but they’re coming along!  The boys still have another week of school, so the noise level in our house for the summer will be a little less next week.  🙂

Way to go on a strong finish, girls!

Kirstyn Band Concert and Music News!

Tonight Kirstyn had the final band concert of the year at the middle school.  Her teacher has been VERY impressed with her (no surprise there considering her talent and the district we just came from)! 🙂  She did a great job playing and she also got a band award with all the other 8th graders for their hard work!

We just found out also from her auditions for the high school band that she is one of only 2 or 3 freshman that was selected to be in Wind Ensemble, the highest audition band at the high school!  What an awesome thing is that!  To be thought so highly of as a freshman is a huge accomplishment!  From what we hear, that rarely happens at Castle View High School!

Brittany found out the results of her auditions as well!  She made it into Chamber Strings, the highest orchestra at the high school!  She is only 1 of 17 in Chamber Strings, and for a newcomer, that is absolutely phenomenal!  They see a ton of potential in her as well!

In addition to band and orchestra, Kirstyn made it into the audition freshman choir, and Brittany made it into Versailles, the audition women’s choir.  They are both excited, having not participated in choir in high school before.  They both have great voices and we love to hear them sing!

Great job girls!
